Edinburgh City Vision (CEC, June 2003)

Following the Scottish Executive’s publication of Building Better Cities in January 2003, the City of Edinburgh Council undertook a consultation process which aimed to produce an agreed vision for the city. The resultant vision statement has been developed through engagement with civic and business leaders, stakeholders, community planning partners and communities across the city. The document outlines the direction in which the city should be steered from 2003 to 2015, and beyond.

Edinburgh’s Growth is Scotland’s Success - The case for Edinburgh.

Created in response to the Scottish Executive’s Building Better Cities report, this document looks at Edinburgh as a key driver of the Scottish Economy and argues that a strong Edinburgh can bring growth and increased prosperity to Scotland as a whole. The report compares the Edinburgh economy to the Scottish average highlighting the city’s strengths, and outlines areas where focus and investment is required in order to maintain the city’s valuable contribution to the national economy.

The Edinburgh 2020 document investigates two scenarios for the future of the Edinburgh City Region. The scenarios look into the development of Edinburgh over the next 15 years and hypothesise what the city stands to gain through ambition and good governance, or lose as a result of inaction and complacency. The product of a thorough consultation and investigative process, this project was aimed at creating discussion over the city’s future direction.

A vision for the Edinburgh Business Assembly

Acting as a mission statement for the Edinburgh Business Assembly (EBA), this document outlines the Assembly’s core ambitions for the city, and discusses their role in steering Edinburgh to continued success. The document also highlights the opportunities and threats which the EBA believes Edinburgh faces and provides private sector opinion on a range of development issues.
